Kirin Gyoza Bar

Gyoza, Morning Glory Spinach, and Shui Mai

Kirin gyoza (dumplings) bar is one of the best gyoza bars I have been to in Sapporo Japan. It's small and cozy and has a rustic, feels like you are eating on the street vibe. Think of those street side eateries in Hong Kong or Taiwan, sharing a table with strangers on cheap plastic chairs. Except that, Kirin gyoza bar has no outdoor seating, but you get the idea. It's the food that really matters anyway, and the gyoza is awesome. They are handmade and the outer dough wrapping is quite thick with a generous filling so the dumplings are larger than the usual ones you might typically see around Sapporo Japan. And they are juicy and delicious.

Also, what I really like about Kirin is that they have bottles (big) only self-serve beer. It's very unique in that it doesn't feel like you are in a restaurant, but more like chilling at a friend's house eating gyoza and beer. There are some other good dishes on the menu like sui mai (Chinese meat balls), morning glory spinach (a dish found in many south east Asian countries) which I love, and xiaolongbao (pronounced shou long pou in Japan) which is very popular among the Japanese.

Located at the Tanukikoji Market at south 3, West 6. There are only 11 seats so make sure to book. Open from 17:00 to 24:00. Closed on Sundays.
