Jingisukan at Jin Jin

Jin Jin is a jingisukan restaurant located in downtown Sapporo, right between Odori and Susukino, in Tanukikoji (the shopping arcade that runs from South 3, West 1 to South 3, West 7. Jin Jin can be found at Tanukikoji West 4. A very convenient location indeed. It's on the ground floor so you can't miss it.

Jingisukan is barbecued lamb self cooked at your table on a big heavy grill. This is famous food in Hokkaido and should not be missed if you are visiting.

What makes Jin Jin unique? The grill is not your typical jingisukan grill. Usually they are cone shaped with small grooves moulded around the face. But here the grill is flat with a thick moatesque cut out around the edge to collect the fats, oils, juices and what have you. Does this make the meal healthier? Anyway, it looks pretty cool.

Also you have the choice of all the different cuts of lamb to come pre-marinated or not. The marinated lamb is tasty so the usual jingisukan dipping sauce in not neccessary. I don't know much about the different kinds of lamb, but the different cuts vary in quality and price so try them out. There is also a tabehodai (all you can eat) option but this only includes one kind of lamb, the cheapest and so I'm guessing the lowest quality. However, after a while and some beers later it's difficult to tell the difference.

The atmosphere is lively here and there might be a little wait for a table, a good indication of a good establishment. It's quite narrow inside so there is not much room for large parties. Give them a call to confirm.

The average cost including drinks will be about 3,000 yen per person.
